We goofed! We thought this great youngster was a Bay Black and named him Bay Knight, but now that he is shorn for the first time, he is solid true black with the most lustrous, softest hand. Very long staple, low-amplitude crimp and not too dense. But the fineness and hand make up for his lack of density.
We asked five women to feel fleeces from our yearlings and juveniles and tell us which one they would like best for a sweater. ALL of them selected the feel and look of this true black young male.
Bay Knight of Pend Oreille comes from one of North America's most famous bloodlines -- Premier's Absolute is Bay Knight's grandsire -- through his sire, Kenai of Pend Oreille.
Bay Knight's dam is from the successful breeding program at Alpacas de la Patagonia. His dam is a rich reddish-brown with white face. Kenai is a fawn color, whose sire (Absolute) is silver gray and white and his dam, out of Bolivian Mocha, is a dark rose gray.
