One of the best parts of having an alpaca farm is sharing these wonderful creatures with others, whether they be seasoned alpaca breeders or visitors who have never seen an alpaca before. Every year, we look forward to our Open Farm days (the last full weekend in September) when we invite the community to come to Wheatland Alpacas to meet the new crias and visit old alpaca friends.At Wheatland Alpacas, we have made a serious commitment to educating and working with people new to the world of alpacas. We are hands-on owners, doing the day-to-day care, management,and training. Breeding for temperament and conformation has been as high a priority as breeding for fiber quality. We know the personalities and strengths of all of our alpacas. Thus, we can help prospective buyers to make appropriate choices for augmenting their herd or choosing fiber companion animals. Prior to buying our first alpacas in 2003, we attended shows and handling workshops, read everything we could, visited farms and dreamt and planned for over 2 years. We feel honored by the confidence many local farms have in our ability to work with alpacas and provide excellent care for them as we often are called for helping with birthing, shearing, and monitoring pregnant dams when they are out of town.We operate with a high level of ethics in our decision-making about if and when to breed which animals. We have also made a commitment to camelid rescue and have several alpacas and llamas that we adopted when their previous owners were no longer able to care for them.We invite you to visit us and the camelids at Wheatland Alpacas!
