Our Story……
Animal lovers from the beginning, we began our ranching experience back in the early 90’s on a ten acre ranch in Cheney, WA named appropriately “Special K Ranch”. We raised Champion Registered Pygmy Goats and Registered Nigerian Dwarf Goats breeding & showing throughout the Pacific Northwest with sales all over the United States. Then, in what seemed to be a whirlwind decision to appease one of Sherries life long dreams of raising llamas… the opportunity arose to purchase an entire herd !

So began the love of camelids with 14 females and 5 males. “In one weekend family and friends helped raise 5 barns and cross fenced 6 more pastures”, recalls Sherrie. “We needed to get them moved to Cheney right away as the previous owners were moving to another state, and they were already on the other side of the state as it was.” Since Bill worked in the lumber industry the purchase and arrival of materials was done quickly; as well as the use of one of the trim trucks to go and pick up the llamas! It was quite the experience and sight, when stopping for gas all the llamas stood and peered out the side doors drawing lots of attention. They made it to Cheney safe and sound and loved their new home as much as we loved them. Within a few months the herd grew to 22 with three very unexpected crias; that’s another story! We continued to raise our llamas, goats and many other critters which called our ten acre ranch home for another 10 years, and then due to personal and economic factors we had to sell out in late 2001. Our hearts were broken and we tried to push aside our desire and passion for our animals….and life went on.

Then nearly 12 years later we could not suppress our desire and dreams to raise animals again. So after very little deliberation we decided on Alpacas. That was our way of downsizing so to speak. Our passion and love of camelids continue with our new found loves of alpacas, and our hearts are singing with joy that we have this opportunity once again in our lives. We now own 6 beautiful alpacas which are co mingled with Alpaca Rose Ranch alpacas where we live and are ranch managers for Lin Harwood. Thats a whole other story also!!!

Come visit with us at Alpaca Rose Ranch in Elk, WA; we would love to share our passion and experience with raising and loving alpacas! Spend some time with us learning and sharing some alpaca kisses and love. We are here to help you fulfill your dreams as we have ours!!

Noting that we are new to the Alpaca Business (however not new to camelids as we were formerly Special K Ranch of Cheney, WA where we raised Llamas along with Pygmy goats and Nigerian Dwarfs) , we wish to thank a very special Alpaca ranch here in the Pacific Northwest; “Alpaca Rose Ranch” with Jerry & Lin Harwood. Without them we would not be on this journey…. We sincerely thank them for the beginnings of our fiber fabulous foundation herd!
