Fireball Alpacas

Description

Fireball Dominica was a bit too small to breed in 2013, but has now developed into a very strong breeding potential for our farm or yours. We have plans to breed her in the spring of 2014 to our majestic and multi-award winning herdsire, Snowmass Midnight Sun. You can read more about his history on this site. This breeding will undoubtedly improve size and structure of Dominica's smaller scale, and only enhance her noteworthy fiber stats.

Rainman, sire to Dominica, is the product of the VERY finest-fleeced Hemingway dam Bobbie Ann and Accoyo El Nino, whose density and fleece character are legendary. Rainman is the merger of A and B lines and has enough offspring to bear testament to his consistent impact with improved density, crimp, fineness, and coverage.

Dominica's stats are impressive to say the least and in many ways, mirror her sire. At three years old, she is holding tight to a low AFD of 21.2, however, interestingly enough, on her most recent histogram (2013) from Ian Watts at Alpaca Consulting USA, she had an anticipated spike in fiber diameter at the time of transport to our farm (a highly stressful time), but has since shot downward nearing 19 AFD. We attribute this mainly to a strategic diet our alpacas enjoy especially designed for our farm by a livestock nutritionist with components that improve and sustain fiber. We're looking forward to our 2014 stats for continued fiber improvement even as our alpacas age.

Exceptionally nice crimp covers this female throughout her body and with extra long 4 1/2 inch staple length, this impressive fiber/breeding female yields perfect fiber for yarn processing or hand spinning. Dominica's fiber also demonstrates a lustrous sheen and very nice handle.
