The Ranch
Welcome, I am Chris Sturgeon owner of SFAR – I have two careers.
One is SFAR, that I enjoy every day.
My other work is that of a mental health clinician. I have offices in Everett & Arlington Washington. I have been in practice for 23 years, my practice is called Westwinds Behavioral Health. I offer professionally recognized psychological services.
Let me share about my career at SFAR. It started nearly 60 years ago because I fell in love with alpacas as a young boy at 11 years old. I was a caddy at the golf and country club where my father was a member - Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club in Calgary. Every weekend and during summer holidays I was at the golf club carrying golf clubs and loving every second of it. Almost every golfer was wearing these cool sweaters. Arnold Palmer was a hero of mine and he wore alpaca sweaters which became known as golf sweaters. As I caddied through the summers, I was able to afford to buy these sweaters so I wore golf (Alpaca) sweaters all through school. I'm in alpaca sweaters in all my high school pictures. Ever since then I have wanted to have something to do with these animals and this industry. So, 19 years ago I visited an alpaca event called Alpacapalooza in the South Seattle area. I also visited a local alpaca ranch near Mt Vernon WA at Misty Ridge Alpacas, owned by John and Shannon Ellis, really nice folks. Four days later we owned our first four alpacas. Elise and I attended some their seminars and other alpaca shows. We were convinced this was for us and the rest is history.
So, in 2006 the decision was made and the first alpacas were purchased. Brown Sugar was the name of our first alpaca purchased. She was from a local alpaca ranch. She was a stunning show stopper, a Blue-Ribbon winner with Color Championships under her fleece. It was so easy to fall in love with Brown Sugar’s loving disposition and her award-winning attributes - density -conformation – strength – fineness.
So, we were in. Love to be of help – if you have any questions or just want to say hello or come for a visit or just want to reach out for some info ask for me Chris at:
